Tales of buying an oven

Every time I use my semi-new oven, I’m reminded of how much trouble I went through to find the one with all the functions I wanted – grill, bake, roast, microwave. But at every store I went to, I was told different stories by different salespeople, sometimes about the same model of oven. Some had no idea how their own products work .

It was really confusing so I turned to the internet. The problem with that is that models differ not only from store to store but also from country to country. Long story short, it was a hassle buying my oven which is supposed to be just a simple device. Imagine if I were looking to buy a distributor water filter which I know nothing about.

How many is too many?

I’ve recently been reading about the problem with the new iPhone 4 which apparently blocks off reception if you hold the phone a certain way. So people started inventing ingenious ways to overcome the problem including using duct tape to wrap around the bottom of the phone.

And then Apple comes out with this offer to give users a free case that apparently fixes the problem. Hmm, interesting! I wonder just how many iphone accessories people need to attach to their phones! I mean, I use a HP iPaq with zero accessories and it works just great!

Shopped till we dropped

Remember I mentioned yesterday that we were going to check out a new (to us) mall that we stumbled up one day. Well, it was a trip so worth it that all of us came back with smiles pasted on our faces. First off, the place is huge, not too crowded and their outlet stores stock some really good pieces and prices we don’t see very often.

We spent 3.5 hours there shopping till we dropped literally. I think we went into every store, tried out lots of clothes and the only place we didn’t visit was problem the promotional area which was set up to sell books. You can be sure we’ll be heading there again soon!

A new mall to explore

For weeks now, we’ve been saying that we want to go check out a mall on the other side of town which we stumbled upon one night while going to a wedding dinner. From our brief visit there, it looks like there’s lots of mom and pop stores as opposed to the all too familiar chain store. See one chain store and you’re practically seen them all.

But the stores at this mall are as uncommon as outdoor fireplaces and look really promising as well. Can’t wait to head out there tomorrow morning!

Real vs fashion jewelry

At the risk of sounding like a nag, I think it’s best not to wear real jewelry in view of the current state of the economy. Not that many of us can even afford to buy any new jewelry these days and any extra savings that people have, they’re better off investing in gold coins instead.

At least you know the returns are stable and you don’t have those nagging safety concerns associated with wearing too much expensive glitter. Even at weddings, I notice that people tend to go with fashion accessories these days. They are equally elegant and very presentable so I don’t see anything wrong with wearing them to formal functions.

Give a thought to other shoppers

When I go to the mall on weekends, one of the first things I notice is that there are a lot more children than usual. So shopping is a great family activity but I also notice that it’s an opportunity many parents take to unleash their kids to run all over the mall, playing hide and seek amongst other shoppers and clothes racks, chasing each other into approaching shopping carts, playing on the escalators!!

All very dangerous and annoying activities, I must say. The mall is usually very crowded on weekends and it’s not a playground! It is a scenario that plays out the worst in life insurance applications. Sometimes I just wish parents would take the environment and other people into consideration aside from making their own shopping day an enjoyable one.

Could looking good be easier than you imagine?

I look at the pictures of celebs and I often envy their smooth, flawless complexions. To even come close to attaining that kind of flawlessness must’ve been the work of the best wrinkle creams and beauty treatments money can buy, and oftentimes, it’s not the kind of money that just any regular woman can fork out, I’m sure.

I can’t say I’ve seen any of these stars up close and personal, or anything like that. At any rate, us minions had best resolve to accepting the fact that we will never look anywhere near as good as those celebs. Not unless we employ the services of Photoshop, that is !

New malls to explore

It’s amazing that we’ve actually discovered a couple of new (to us) malls in the past two weekends. I can’t wait to visit them this weekend to check out what new stores there are. And since I’ve promised my good neighbor that I’ll try to check out some wrinkle creams for her while I’m out, there’s my perfect excuse to check out these new malls as well.

Although these are going to be fairly long drives, I’m actually pretty excited about going there. I mean, who knows, we might find some real bargains while we are there. What I hope to find are some special one-off stores as opposed to the same old chains and franchises. Yes, definitely shopping this weekend.

No more trial and error

Gone are the days when I used to buy skincare products by trial and error. I would grab a few different brands and try them out for best effect. No more of that. The internet has arrived! These days, I simply search for a product and read the reviews before I buy and that’s how I find everything, yes, even the best wrinkle creams that work right away without me becoming a guinea pig! Happy days!

An afternoon spent shopping

Guess what, I finally made it to the mall this afternoon! It’s been ages since I actually physically went shopping. Well, apparently window shopping is still in despite the gloomy economy. The drugstore was packed with people seeking blackhead treatments and beauty products. We zipped into a costume accessories store and there was a ton of beautiful earrings, bracelets and rings calling out to me. Finally we bought a bracelet, promising ourselves that we would be back for more.
