In the continuing saga of my Colgate toothpaste gone stinky, the dispatcher/agent showed up at my house with an envelope, apparently in exchange for the rotten tubes. The other day, their customer service lady had told me she would just send the guy to pick up my 5 tubes of toothpaste (2 bad tubes + 3 good tubes that I wanted to exchange just in case they were bad too). She’d been reluctant to do a direct exchange, suggesting instead that she first send the bad tubes to Thailand for testing (as if she didn’t believe me!). So I was a little surprised when the guy came with an envelope. Inside was 4 tubes of toothpaste! Only 4? I was like what? Are you serious? Five tubes for four??? What kind of customer service is this?! The lady knew I was going to turn in 5 tubes! It’s not the dispatcher’s fault. I know that. He’s just doing his job so I didn’t scream him. But even he understood that it wasn’t right for them to shortchange me like that! I hope his boss doesn’t give him a hard time back at the office. At any rate, if the customer service lady calls me later, I’ll have a thing or two to tell her .

I finally got around to calling Colgate today to report a second tube of toothpaste gone bad. I mean, whoever heard of a brand new tube of toothpaste that stinks to high heaven? Eww, I’ve never encountered anything like this in my life. Neither has anyone I’ve talked to. Have you? But these days, everything is substandard – clothes that get distorted or discolored in a couple of washes, bag straps that disintegrate after a few uses, stuff like that – so nothing surprises me any more. It just makes me wonder whatever happened to quality control and business ethics. Anyhow when I encountered the first tube of stinky Colgate Triple Action, I thought it was just a one-off. But when the next tube of Total 12 turned out to have that same horrible stink, I had it! So I called their toll-free customer line and surprisingly, someone picked up in less than 5 rings. So that was nice, as was the lady who answered the phone. So I thought it was all going to be worked out quickly – that she’d just replace them for me.

But after 15 minutes of getting down to the details, she said she’d send her agent to pick up the 2 bad tubes + 3 new tubes that I asked to exchange just in case they’re from the same batch.

She would then send the 2 bad tubes to Thailand to be analyzed. She would call me back after 2 weeks or whenever she receives the results of their findings and only then will she arrange to send me the 2 replacement tubes for the ones gone bad.

I was like what? Just replace the tubes, darn it, and you can take all the time in the world to do your analysis in Thailand or the South Pole, I really don’t care. I’m not interested in what went wrong with your production. That’s your problem.

We’re talking about a few miserable tubes of toothpaste here, not a Rolls Royce for crying out loud! In fact, to compensate me for my trouble, they should throw in a few tubes free as a goodwill gesture.

I’m not happy with this kind of customer service but let’s wait and see how they handle the case. Meantime I’m switching to another brand. Stinky toothpaste is the last thing I need to start my morning.

Anyways, I try not to miss it because it’s probably one of the more genuine sales out there. You get a good upfront discount and then another 5-10% off your total purchases on top of that. Do the math and you know it’s not a bad deal. My girls and I bought a pair of jeans each at 70% off. I think theirs were AppleMints and mine was Diesel. Oops, forgot to snap a photo. Suffice to say, they were really worth it. We didn’t buy as much as we thought we would at the grocery section because most things were not that much cheaper. The lines were long enough that I managed to make friends with a few of the ladies in line . I mean, what do you expect? Everyone was complaining. We were tired of standing in line and there was nothing else to do but chit-chat, you know. © Subscribe to Shopperista in an RSS reader or via email, or follow me on Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest for fabulous shopping deals every [...]

I was excited at the prospect of going to watch Star Wars. I’ve watched almost every Star Wars movie that was ever released. So quite obviously, I was excited about seeing the familiar faces of Hans Solo, Princess Leia and Chewbacca again. My heart sank when I found out that this Star Wars is an animated movie. Seeing that we got free tickets, I had to swallow my disappointment. Okay, I thought I’d be seeing an animated version of the old familiar Star Wars. Well, some of the old characters are still there like Jedi, Obiwan Kenobi and the 2 loveable robots, R2D2 and C3PO. The strapping Anakin (er, where’s Luke and how are they related?) Skywalker is forced to take on a padawan (aka apprentice), name of Ahsoka Tano, at the height of the Clone Wars. The two are somehow caught out and ordered to rescue Stinko the Huttlett, son of Jabba the Hutt who’s been kidnapped by Lord Dooku. The fighting sequences are reminiscent of the other Star Wars movies I’ve watched before. As for this movie itself, I’m not sure what to say except that I enjoyed the popcorn and hotdog . © Subscribe to Shopperista in [...]

We got free tickets to watch Wall-E, short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth something-or-other last weekend. Kids think this would be a cute movie to watch. Wall-E, as you probably know by now, is a garbage-collecting robot that’s trying to clean up the Earth that mankind has messed up. The filthy environment left behind by man is one heck of a job for a single robot but Wall-E, with only a little roach for companionship, is working hard day and night. One day, Eve, a huge spaceship lands and drops off a female robot by the name of Eve to look for possible signs that Earth may still be inhabitable. Wall-E falls in love with Eve and shows her all his “treasures of trash”, one of which turns out to be the last surviving plant, the very thing Eve has been sent to Earth to find.
Yeah, it’s a movie with an environmental message. There’s not much dialog though so you have to figure most of it out yourself. Maybe a bit obscure for young kids to understand. But hey, you could use this movie to open up a discussion with your kids about saving the environment.
