internet speeds in remote areas

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Look great, feel gorgeous and save money with my shopping deals and tips. Subscribe to my feed in an RSS reader or via email, or follow me on Twitter for the latest updates.

With the amount of time I spend on the internet (which is like 25 hours a day), I’m game for an ever-faster connection that will help me get more done in less time. I mean, isn’t that everyone’s dream? With kids in the house constantly hogging the line, I don’t think it’s too much to wish for lightning speed so we can all get our stuff done.

But being that we’re in the city, the excuse we always get from our ISP for slow and unstable internet connections is that there are just too many people online during peak hours and that’s what’s slowing everyone else down.

That’s like telling us to move to a remote location so we can enjoy faster speeds. Well, actually they may have a point there. Wild Blue offers high speed satellite internet connections at very affordable prices for those who live in rural or remote locations.

So it’s not true that people who live out in the country have even slower speeds than what we have in the city. That, in itself, might be reason to recommend Wild Blue to friends and family who live in the outskirts of the city, eh? They’ll probably thank me for it too.

help with online marketing

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Being a home and online business owner, I’m constantly looking for new business opportunities and trying out different ways to market my business. I believe that’s how it is for many of you too.

But being a mom of school-going kids, I find it very time-consuming to conduct research and trial and error exercises to find out what works and what doesn’t. It just takes up too much of my time and energy.

I recently found out about Orange Soda’s online marketing services which is the perfect way to get some of that weight off our shoulders. Theyir experts will help you manage your online marketing efforts using effective technological means to help your business grow.

This is good news for those who are newbies, techno-challenged or even seasoned online marketers who just don’t have the time to balance everything we have on our plates. Like I always say, a little help goes a long way because then, any time that’s freed up for us can be used on tasks that need our attention most.

To be quite honest, we can’t do everything ourselves even though we work at home. So if it means paying a little to take off some of the load and stress, it could be well worth it.

Dad and Grad special on laptop bags

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

One of the things a modern dad will definitely appreciate is a laptop backpack. I find laptop backpacks to be much more functional than laptop sling bags as they’re easier to carry and feel lighter because of the weight distribution.

This David King & Co. Laptop Backpack has a zippered padded laptop section, multi pocket organizer pockets (very convenient for stashing little gadgets) and even a cell phone holder on the shoulder strap.

There are many more designs of laptop backpacks, laptop cases and laptop sleeves to choose from at eBags. Be sure you take advantage of their Special Dads & Grads offer and save $10 when you spend $50 and above. Offer expires June 30, 2009.

coffee makers for Mother’s Day

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Did you notice that Mother’s Day is less than a month away? I just did and I’ve started looking around for stuff that I would like to receive for Mother’s Day (hint! hint!) being that I’m a mother myself  .

Yeah, this Bialetti Cuor di Moka Stovetop Espresso Maker would be nice. Made in Italy of high polish aluminum with silicone handles, it features an exclusive patented system developed with Illy to produce the best cup of espresso, or should I say 3 cups. I love the heart shape  .

I also like this Bialetti Cappuccino and Latte set which comes with a 32oz. non-stick Milk Frother and is Bialetti’s best selling 6-cup coffee express. It’ll be just the right size for when I have friends over.

Okay, where did I find these? LaPrima Shops® is now my favorite online place to visit for its wide selection of funky looking bakeware, kitchenware and tableware. You enjoy free shipping on orders above $99.

Oh, there’s more. From now through May 14, 2009, you also get to save $5 instantly on purchases of $50 and up. You should seriously check out LaPrima.

my nails done at HP Digital Home Living, 1 Utama

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

See, I got my fingernails all prettied up for the long weekend. I’ve always wanted to have my nails painted with floral designs but I’m not one of those who has time to sit around for hours while each petal is painstakingly dotted on?

Well, I had mine done by a laser printer at the HP Digital Home Living booth on the Ground Floor at 1 Utama’s New Wing  . I think they’ll be there through October 27, 2008.

The lady got me to stick my finger into this printer with a big hole and I picked a design from the selection on the laptop. She hit the ‘print’ button and I could hear the printer head clacking away the design onto my nail. How cool is that!

All done in a matter of minutes. Yes, an unlikely place to get my nails painted, my arm tattooed and a yummy cupcake to munch I know, and for free too. Woo-hoo.

we bought the Playstation 3

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

So the Playstation 3 is finally here, two years late. So where’s the excitement in that? But that’s just me. Obviously many people here, DH included, seem to think it is worth sacrificing sleep to go line up at 1 Utama at 5:00am.

Seems some of the folks had been camping there day and night for the past few days (see how dark it was).

As usual, the organizers made sure there was a gaggle of bare-skin-bare-boned girls to keep the big boys from getting bored while waiting to get their hands on their new toy. Nothing much to look at so you won’t miss the photos we didn’t take.

We did end up with a small discount, nothing much if you factor in all that proprietary stuff the Playstation 3 needs in order to work.

best darned iPAQ Business Navigator

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Way back in July (whoa, that seems like a lifetime ago  ), I told y’all I got myself a new toy and that I needed time to play with it first before I can tell you what I think about it… so you too can run out and grab one!! Remember?

Yes, so this is it. My new, now semi-new, iPAQ Business Navigator, the best darned thing ever… as far as I’m concerned.

… better, slicker, faster than that silly, oh-so-clumsy iPhone DH has. Blek!! Yes, we have 2 camps in our family – the Apple haters (aka my 3 kids + me = 4!) and the Apple polisher (aka DH).

So you tell me, who’s gonna win when it comes to buying pocket PCs? By the way, we only have one cell phone which Skye (my 12yo) is currently using. The rest of us have pocket PCs.

Okay, back to my iPAQ. I love that it’s black, very professional-looking, no-nonsense and being somewhat of a tomboy myself, I find black looks rather masculine.

This new iPaq has everything my old iPaq (which Raine, my 15yo is using right now) had + more, including a much louder ringing volume, a huge screen (gotta love that), a keypad which was missing from my old iPaq and a 3 megapixel camera that takes great quality shots.

Functionality-wise, it keeps me on my toes with my

  • schedules of when I’m having coffee with my friends
  • alarms to remind me to pick up my kids and pay the bills
  • grocery lists coming out my ears
  • music playlist for my gym workouts
  • games to keep me occupied while waiting for my kids at school
  • and basically whatever else a fullblown PC can do.

So I’m one happer camper *whistles a happy tune*.
