The week-long Stylo Fashion Festival, which ended last Friday, has got to be one of the biggest red carpet events of the year.

When I said ‘red carpet’, did you think I was joking? I can just see me strutting up that red carpet and pausing to pose for the photographers (ahem!) .

The who’s who of high society and the celeb world were treated to a glitzy colorful display featuring fashions by upstart and up-and-coming designers.

An excitingly futuristic piece of headgear there for days when you’re offline but still want to feel “wired in” anyhow.

In a nutshell, it was an event of adjectives - strange I can’t think of any right now, but I’m sure you know what I mean  .

2008 Academy Awards: fashionistas

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Now that I’ve commented on the worst dressed stars on the Red Carpet, I guess I have to balance it out with who I think are the three best dressed.

Again these are only the celebs I know and they’re in no particular order. By the way, these are also all the dressed I would wear myself (darn, I was sure I had the invite here somewhere!  )

When in doubt, always choose black and keep it simple. You reckon that’s what Jennifer Garner was thinking while she was getting dressed for the party?

Not many women can carry off a fishtail gown well but this Oscar de la Renta silk taffeta gown really looks good on her.

Who would’ve know Jessica Alba is in her third semester? If that had been me, I’d be a walking oil drum, seriously  . This Marchesa gown flows beautifully and is a really sweet color.

She’s done a great job by not wearing a necklace because that would’ve stolen the limelight of that beautiful detailing on the bodice. And of course, the woman is blessed with good looks to book.

You need a slim body and a good height to carry this dress off because of the joint midway down the gown. And Penelope Cruz has certainly got both. A shorter person would’ve looked stumpy in this. Now all she needs to complete her look is to use a darker shade of lipstick so she wouldn’t look so deathly pale.

2008 Academy Awards: fashion disasters

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Just when I was beginning to wonder what it would take to wake me up from this blog slumber, along comes the 2008 Academy Awards. Wow, I feel like I’ve just won a kick in the butt.

Okay, let’s start with the fashion victims of this year’s Oscar Red Carpet. I’m going to list the top three ugliest gowns and remember, these are the actresses that I know, and the list is in no particular order.

Jennifer Hudson should have let handbags be handbags. Handbags are meant to be held in the hand, not hung over one’s neck and left to dangle over one’s chest.

While white is really flattering on her skin tone, it’s also a color that’s notorious for making the wearer appear fatter. Some long curly locks would also help hide those fabulously untoned arms, dear.

Poor Heidi Klum, Project Runway must really be taking a toll on her. She looks like she hasn’t eaten in days.

Looks like her size zero gown is hanging by her neck. Seriously, I think her gown looks too heavy for her and is weighing her down.

Oh, and Heidi, what’s with that bun that even my grandmother wouldn’t be seen in?

aa08_nicole_kidman 2008 Academy Awards: fashion disasters

Dear Nicole Kidman has always been, to me at least, someone who tries too hard. Remember how hard she tried with those blood-red lips?

Well, this time, she’s outdone herself with a diamond overkill. The gown is pretty but why did she have to stone it to death?

The top tier of her diamond necklace would’ve sufficed beautifully. But no, she had to add two more layers to make sure we really get the idea!

no fan of Crocs

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

I have to admit I have never really liked the grotesque rubbery look of Crocs. croc shoesThe first time I laid eyes on them, I swear they were the ugliest things I’ve ever seen.

And I still do… think they’re the ugliest things a person could ever wear. So when my best buddy told me that even she had invested in a pair and joined the Croc revolution, my jaw positively dropped!

I say ‘invested’ because although they look cheap, they’re not! They’re supposed to have some sort of podiatric benefit on your feet though I really can’t see how. Not when some kids have lately gotten their Crocs stuck in the teeth of elevators and had their poor toes cut off.

While my friend swears they’re so-oo comfortable, her husband has warned, “Don’t walk with me when you’re wearing those things! Walk on ahead and I’ll pretend I don’t know you!” Ouch! I’m afraid I have to agree with him there  .
